Come out and play!
- Ready, Set, Go Pennsylvania Sports
The mission of this alliance is to attract
and host statewide, regional and national sporting events and
showcase Pennsylvania as a viable event destination for a
variety of sporting ventures.
Twelve Tourist Promotion Agencies (TPA) have partnered to
attract sporting events year-around to generate economic
impact, add to the quality of life, and produce positive
exposure for Pennsylvania as an affordable sports-friendly
destination.
Over the past five years, there has been a nationwide surge in
the rise of new sports commissions around the country.
Business community leaders across the county have recognized
that attracting sporting events to their areas can be
economically lucrative. In order for Pennsylvania to stay
competitive, it must aggressively pursue this market segment.
This group of TPA’s has worked together this past year
attending several sport tradeshows. By pooling our dollars,
this alliance serves to maximize the impact of sports
marketing in Pennsylvania. All marketing and advertising
activities will occur through this alliance, thereby
eliminating separate advertising by each TPA.
This alliance is being administered through the Sports/Events
Committee of the Central Pennsylvania Convention & Visitors
Bureau which is a non-profit organization. Partners within the
alliance agreed that they would mutually work with each other
and that a separate independent non-profit organization was
not necessary.
Economic Impact
In the past five years (nationwide), 75.3
million people traveled 50 miles or more one-way to attend an
organized sporting event. Sports-related travel generates 46.2
million room nights each year.
Through the creation of sports marketing
departments/commissions in each of the respective TPA’s,
generating and tracking room nights is a top priority. The
more room nights booked, the greater amount of room tax
dollars collected for marketing purposes and sales tax dollars
which benefits the Commonwealth. Through this initiative the
Commonwealth will also be achieving a return on investment.
Goals and Objectives
- To reach key decision makers in the
sporting industry.
- To extend overnight stays to multi-night
stays within the region.
- To encourage future repeat overnight visits
to the region.
- Develop incremental business
